Founded in 2011, Don Joel Estate was named after the nickname of owner Allan Oviedo’s father. The farm covers about 10 hectares and is located in Costa Rica’s West Valley. It is family-run, with every member contributing during harvest season. The Oviedo family is dedicated to improving quality through learning new processing methods, introducing new varieties, and enhancing and conserving their soils.

The San Roque variety is a relatively new and increasingly noted cultivar from Costa Rica. It has been gradually introduced by micromills and quality-focused farms. Don Joel Estate gained recognition for this variety when it was entered in the 2022 Cup of Excellence, where it placed 15th.
